Get Involved
The Montebello Historical Society runs entirely on volunteer power. If you've ever wanted to contribute to your community in a meaningful, creative way: this is it. We're a small but passionate team keeping a piece of Montebello's history alive, and we're always looking for people who want to help shape what that looks like. Our size is actually an advantage: volunteers here get real responsibility, real creative input, and a real relationship with the work.
We're currently looking for:
Tongva Community Liaison / Cultural Consultant: We are actively seeking volunteers with personal or educational ties to the Tongva people, the original inhabitants of the land on which Montebello stands. Your knowledge and perspective would be invaluable in helping us tell the story of California's First People with the accuracy, depth, and respect it deserves.
Illustrator: We periodically update educational materials and exhibits, and we'd love someone who can bring history to life visually. Portraiture and figure illustration especially welcome.
Writer / Bilingual Writer (English & Spanish): Help us tell Montebello's stories in ways that are accessible, engaging, and inclusive. Spanish-language content is a priority as we work to better serve our community.
Curator / Museum Enthusiast: No formal credentials required—just curiosity, care for historical accuracy, and an interest in hands-on exhibit work. Our intimate space gives volunteers genuine creative freedom.
Marketing & Fundraising Support: Help us grow our reach, build donor relationships, and keep the lights on. Grant writing experience is a plus but not required.
General Volunteers: We open our doors every Saturday from 12–3pm and can always use friendly, reliable people to help welcome the public.
We'd love to hear from you!
