Honoring Montebello's Hometown Baseball Champion:

A Tribute to
Marge "Poncho" Villa

BASEBALL DAY:
April 6th, from 12 pm to 3 pm, at the Juan Matias Sanchez Adobe Museum & Historic Site

In honor of the indomitable spirit and athletic prowess of Montebello's Hometown Baseball Champion, Marge “Poncho” Villa, the Montebello Historical Society proudly announces a special event commemorating her legacy. Join us for a heartfelt tribute as we unveil a permanent exhibit dedicated to Marge Villa's extraordinary life, her significant contributions to women's sports, and the rich tapestry of Montebello's history.

Marge Villa's journey began as a spirited tomboy with an undeniable passion for baseball. At the young age of 14, she embarked on her professional softball career with the Orange County Lionettes. Despite facing numerous obstacles, including the constraints imposed by societal norms, Marge's unwavering determination led her to become a trailblazer in women's sports.

In 1946, Marge Villa was invited to join the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League (AAGPBL) as a member of the Kenosha Comets. Not only did she excel on the field as a formidable catcher and team captain, but she also earned recognition as an All-Star player. Marge's remarkable achievements shattered stereotypes and inspired generations of aspiring athletes.

As we celebrate Marge Villa's enduring legacy, we invite the community to join us for a day filled with remembrance, reflection, and gratitude. The event will feature a special unveiling of the permanent exhibit, showcasing artifacts, and memorabilia.

In addition to the exhibit unveiling, attendees can enjoy complimentary popcorn and Cracker Jack giveaways, paying homage to the timeless traditions of America's favorite pastime. As a token of appreciation for your support, we are delighted to offer free limited edition commemorative Marge “Poncho” Villa baseball cards, available on a first-come, first-served basis (one per person).

Rain or shine, the event will occur on April 6th, from 12 pm to 3 pm, at the Montebello Historical Society's Adobe Museum & Historic Site. We warmly invite all community members to join us in honoring the memory of Marge Villa and celebrating her enduring legacy in the annals of Montebello's history.

Mark your calendars and be part of this poignant tribute to a hometown hero whose legacy inspires and uplifts us all.

We look forward to welcoming you on April 6th as we pay homage to Montebello's beloved baseball champion, Marge Villa.
